Easy How to Draw a Valentine’s Day Card Tutorial and Valentine Coloring Page
Below you’ll find an easy step-by-step tutorial for how to draw a Valentine’s Day Card and a Valentine Coloring Page. Turning block letters into 3D letters is a useful skill!
Now students can learn how to draw a Valentine’s Day Card and practice their 3D lettering at the same time. This jam packed PDF download includes everything you need to make a hand lettered and hand colored card for someone special.
Turning block letters into 3D letters uses the same formula as turning a square into a cube. The front shape is drawn first, then the angled sides, and then the back lines. Once students understand that process, they will be on their way. The only catch is that some might need help seeing examples of a few of the curvy letters, so that’s where this tutorial comes in handy.
My original “How to Draw 3D Letters” post (that includes the entire alphabet) is pretty popular, so I thought that another lettering project that helps to celebrate Valentine’s Day might be fun too.
These “Happy Valentine’s Day” letters come directly from that collection, they are just condensed into one PDF to include only the letters needed to spell out the Valentine greeting. And for good measure, a tracing page is added, just in case some younger ones want to join in on the fun.

- Drawing Paper. Don’t substitute it with copy paper or construction paper. The surface will get fuzzy, erasing might cause holes, and the colors will generally not look as bright.
- Stabilo Markers. The large pack provides lots of fun color choices, several shades of each color, including a few choices for skin. The tips are perfect for coloring, and there’s even a promise that they will work after being uncapped for 8 weeks!
- Pencil. The Ticonderoga brand are the most reliable, make nice dark lines when you need them, and are the easiest to erase.
- Eraser. Large ones you can hold in your hand do a much better job than just the pencil tips. Stabilo Markers. They have the best colors, the best tips, and last the longest.
- Black Sharpie Marker. These fine point permanent markers are great for making a crisp outline to your drawing. Use them when you want your outline show up, but not be so heavy that it detracts from other things.
