How to Draw Circle Grid Tree Art and Grid Tree Coloring Page
Below you’ll find an easy step-by-step tutorial for a Circle Grid Tree Art and Grid Tree Coloring Page, inspired by the amazing work of Loretta Grayson.
Grid Tree Drawing
Thanks to the amazing art of Loretta Grayson, who inspired this project. You can see more of her art here: rettgrayson. This fun fall drawing project of showing a warm circle tree against a cool grid background has been a classroom favorite for years.
I loved how Loretta’s tree included a fun color lesson about warm and color colors. The only catch was the project needed to start with getting a background grid on the paper. Older students might be able to make their own, but younger ones would probably struggle with making one with that many straight lines.
Good news! My PDF download includes a full size sample, step-by-step tutorial AND a grid template on page 3. Students can use all that saved time for neat coloring of all those boxes. The neater and more colorful they are, the nicer the finished tree looks.

Materials to draw a Circle Grid Tree
- Drawing Paper. This is the good stuff you can buy in bulk for a good price.
- Pencils. Don’t waste your money on the cheapest brand. These make nice dark lines.
- Black Marker. A permanent marker will give you a nice dark black color.
- Crayons. The project works best when there are lots of shades of blue and green and warm colors. A large box of Crayola crayons does the job.
