Simple Drawing Project
Ask your students concentrate on their coloring skills by starting with a simple drawing project. Here are four easy ideas to work with, a house, flower, bird and monster.
If you haven’t tried Crayola’s Color Sticks yet, you should. They cost a little more than crayons and pencil crayons, but NEVER need sharpening and last a LONG time.
I used these four simple drawing projects for a school art fundraiser one year. I knew that anyone could easily draw at least one of them, and could then focus on just filling them in really, really well. In fact, the above all have at least two layers, which add to their scratchy look.
For an extra rich look, start with any brightly colored cardstock paper. It takes extra work to fill it in, but adds an extra richness that wouldn’t be there with just white paper.
MATERIALS
• Card stock paper, dark colors are best
• Crayola Color Sticks
• Black Sharpie markers, chisel tip
DIRECTIONS
1. Students draw their favorite image with a pencil on the dark card stock.
2. The pencil lines are traced with a black Sharpie.
3. The drawing is colored with Color Sticks. For best results, students should color at least two layers in each section.
4. Retrace the black lines with a marker so they show up really well.
